CIMEC: Cameroon Markets New Mining Opportunities To Investors

Over to 1,000 exhibitors, penalises, delegates, experts amongst others have converged on Yaounde for the 3rd Cameroon International Investment Mining and Exhibition Conference.

The Yaounde Conference Centre is hosting the third Cameroon International Investment and Mining Conference (CIMEC). The confab is coming on the heels of the publication of the results of the airborne geophysical survey which presents over 300 new mineral occurrences in different parts of the country. The Yaounde conference (September 2-4, 2019) which officially opened on Tuesday September 3, according to the Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Gabriel Dodo Ndoke, is an opportunity to present Cameroon’s rich and varied potentials in order to attract more foreign direct investments in the sector which has been identified as one of the priorities for national economic recovery and increased growth. “The objective is to make Cameroon a new mining destination in Africa and a sustainable sub-regional platform for trade in the mining sector, following the example if INDABA in South Africa and PDAC in Toronto, Canada,” the Minister said while opening the conference which is placed under the patronage of the Head of State. CIMEC 2019, Minister Ndoke added, is crucial owing to the multifaceted benefits expected to be generated in the short and medium term by the investments expected in the exploitation and processing of Cameroon’s rich and diversified mineral resources. This explains the choice of the theme of the third edition of CIMEC, “New Mining Opportunities in Cameroon: Evidence of more than 300 new mineral occurrences presented by the World Bank and the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development” Thus, over to 1,000 delegates from leading mining companies, specialist from the mining and quarrying sectors, funding institutions, laboratories, insurance companies and government officials participated in the conference which ends today, September 4. To the President of the CIMEC 2019 Organising Committee, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Fuh Calistus Gentry, the discovery of new mineral occurrences adds up to the already great existing potential with Cameroon hosting the Central African iron ore belt, the lateritic cobalt, rutile, bauxite amongst others. “This forum w...
