Engineering Schools: New Impetus To Meet Development Needs

A series of presidential decrees signed on Monday May 11 transformed the Faculty of Industrial Engineering of the University of Douala into a National School of Engineering and reorganised Yaounde and Maroua Engineering Schools.

Cameroon now boasts of three schools of Engineering after the transformation of the Faculty of Industrial Engineering of the University of Douala into National Advanced School of Engineering Douala by a presidential decree on Monday. Abbreviated ENSPD, the school is placed under the University of Douala. Another decree signed by President Paul Biya organises the same institution giving it a scientific, technological and professional character. The missions assigned to the engineering citadel which includes training of engineers and other senior engineering corps technicians, promotion of academic research and the support to development in the form of service provider, is telling of the new impetus given the sector in order to meet contemporary development needs. The institutions are also empowered to negotiate conventions and cooperation agreements with enterprises, institutions and national and international organisations as well as entertain relations with the socio-professional world.
