South West: Cyber Business Back

Some 500 young people who lost their ICT jobs have rekindled hopes.

Cyber cafes are becoming semi-white collar job offers in the major cities of the South West Region. All the six divisional headquarters of the region are endowed with cyber shops. In descending order of importance, Buea as regional capital champions in the number of cafes followed by Kumba (Meme), Limbe (Fako), Mamfe (Manyu), Menji (Lebialem), Bangem (Kupe Muanenguba) and Mundemba (Ndian). In these areas the internet facility pulls many customers daily. It is easy these days to see a young graduate beginning his or her professional life in a cyber cafe. Not only do they scam and communicate using the internet but they are exposed also to learning by using the tool for research and information. A Molyko cyber cafe owner estimated that some 500 young people lost their self employment jobs in Fako and Meme Divisions during the three months of internet lackout.
