The Board of Directors of Cameroon Airlines Corporation (Camair-Co) approved the programme of introducing two new destinations of the air company notably Lagos and Bamako.
Though no particular date has been unveiled for the start of the flights to these new destinations, the Board that held its 34th session recently, instructed the Director General to deepen studies on the profitability of the new destinations. By extending its flights to Lagos in Nigeria and Bamako in Mali, the national airline company is still implementing its regional strategy launched in 2017 with new destinations such as Dakar (Senegal), Libreville (Gabon), Bangui (CAR) and Abidjan (Cote d’Ivoire). To fly to all these destinations, the company has acquired a new 70-seat aircraft Dash8-Q400 to increase the size of its fleet to six airplanes. The Bombardier Dash8-Q400 acquired by leasing from the emirate company Abu Dhabi Aviation arrived Cameroon recently. The ceremony to officially present the aircraft has been pushed forward to take place in the days ahead after it was initially planned for May 22, at the Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport. CAMAIR-CO pilots we learnt, have already undergone qualification tests in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to prepare the crew for effective commencement of activity by the plane. «Its speed and versatility capabilities will complement and support the two B737 routes, expanding market opportunities,» Camair-Co’s management told reporters. With this new aircraft, the national airline corporation now has five active aircraft in its fleet notably two Boeing B737NG and two MA60.
