An alcoholic drink produced from wheat grains by a local farmer is making headline news on social media and other platforms.
Oku, a locality in Bui Division in the North West Region is popularly known for its unique White Honey, acclaimed internationally as a geographical indication product under the African Intellectual Property Rights Organisation. The area is again making headline news not only for the production of wheat which is not a common practice in Cameroon but also for the production of beer baptized “Sintieh Beer” from wheat grains. Though the product is not yet introduced in the market formally, it is however making social media buzz, triggering several orders from potential consumers. The local brewer, Blasius Fondzenyuf Tatah, a farmer based in his native Oku says he is concerned for now with obtaining a licence for the wheat beer before engaging into mass production. For the moment, production is limited (sometimes just five crates) which is just samples and it is consumed free by locals. “I can produce in very big quantity because I have done all the research and I’m set to produce. All equipment and accessories needed for production are available,” he indicated.
