The mobile application developed to digitalize trade in Cameroon already counts over 2500 registered shops on its platform.
I nformation and Communications Technologies (ICTs) have revolutionized business transactions across the globe and Cameroon is moving according to technology dictates. With the advent of technology, the world is at one’s doorstep just with a click. The virtual world has not spared the trade sector even though Cameroon is still dominantly a traditional society with physical markets still in vogue. However, strides are being made to digitize all sectors including trade notwithstanding the snail-paced evolution. One of such strides is in the domain of e-commerce where several online platforms such as “Buyâm” exists. Inspired by multinational online e-commerce platforms, Mambe Churchill Nanje, a Cameroonian self-made software engineer created the mobile app dubbed “Buyâm.” The App which went operational in June 2021, according to Nanje, was created to digitalize trade in general. With just one year of its functioning, the android app has had 16,000 installs already with over 2500 registered shops available on the platform and 330 approved shops.
