Sintieh Beer: Savouring Wheat Grains In Liquid Form

An alcoholic drink produced by an artisanal brewer in Oku in the North West Region, is making headline news on social media and other platforms even though it is yet to be commercialized officially.

Oku, a locality in Bui Division in the North West Region, popularly known for its unique White Honey is again marvelling the world with the production of a local brand of beer baptized “Sintieh Beer.” Though the product is not yet introduced in the market formally, it is however making social media buzz, triggering several orders from potential consumers. The local brewer, Blasius Fondzenyuf Tatah, a farmer based in his native Oku says he is concerned for now with obtaining a licence for the wheat beer before engaging into mass production. For the moment, production is limited (sometimes just five crates) which is just samples and it is consumed free by locals. “I can produce in very big quantity because I have done all the research and I’m set to produce. All equipment and accessories needed for production are available,” he indicated. Though he is not certain when he will obtain the licence to enable him engage in mass production and commercialization in big cities, Mr Tatah told Cameroon Business Today that he is engaging in the production of more raw materials to fully set the stage for sustainable production. Apart from wheat, he has plans to start producing barleys which he says has comparative advantage in beer production than wheat. He explained that the production protocol of the beer is done through a fermentation. “First, grains are fermented, minced, boiled and pasteurized in line with adequate brewery techniques. Most of which has to do with conversion of natural starch to maltose sugar primarily. Also outstanding are sanitary and hygienic conditions to avoid any possibility of contamination through exposure to harmful bacteria effects. Through this techniques and others by determining alcohol by volume percentage, I’m sure to have a perfect beer at the end. So it’s called craft beer since it is hand made,” he stated.
