Cameroon’s Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute is leading a powerful delegation to Johannesburg, South Africa where Cameroon is taking part for the first time, in the annual summit of BRICS group. The three day summit (22-24 August, 2023) of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) also known as G5, opened yesterday August 22 with President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, Chinese President, Xi Jinping, Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi are in attendance while Russian President, Vladimir Putin will attend via a video conference. Cameroon’s PM is representing President Paul Biya invited among over 60 other leaders from Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Caribbean. Holding on the theme “BRICS and Africa,” the 15th summit of the group of emerging economies will focus on key global issues like reinforcing economic ties within their diverse economies, boosting the currency fundraising and lending of the New Development Bank (BRICS Bank) especially encourage the use of local currency to de-risk the impact of foreign exchange fluctuations. The dollar, it should be noted as gained against emerging market currencies since Russia/Ukraine crisis erupted. As BRICS summit dedicates the last day for discussions with African leaders in line with theme of the conclave, Prime Minister and his delegation comprising of the Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella and the Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Paul Tasong, will certainly use the opportunity to seek for new opportunities for Cameroon.
