Cameroon Telecommunications (CAMTEL) is 25 years old from September 8, 2023. The State owned foremost telecom company was created in 1998 by a presidential decree. Launching activities for the celebrations of the 25 years of the institution, the General Manager, traced the road covered so far by the telecom giant which is today leading the turbulent and competitive digital and telecommunication landscape of the sub-region. While paying tribute to the previous managements for laying a solid foundation for the enterprise which has gone a series of metamorphosis, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi in a press briefing attended by top management staff of the enterprise, brand ambassadors, underlined the significant realization of the company in terms of infrastructure, transport and mobile telephone network. “Since March 2020, CAMTEL holds three exploitative licences in fixed and mobile telephone networks and transport;” she stated. The history of CAMTEL is that which makes the enterprise proud of being a public service role at the service of the public. The General Manager reminded that the national fibre optic backbone is managed by CAMTEL, just like the four submarine cable landing points, 12,000km of optic fibre planted in the country which enables Cameroon to connect with the rest of the world, amongst others. She revealed that some 4000km of optic fibre will soon be added. The fibre optic infrastructure, she stated, is put at the service of different operators and other organizations. CAMTEL is carrying out reforms build around Customer Centricity and Change Management which are core areas of its strategy. The strategy rest on three phases notably stabilization and revival in 2019, consolidation and expansion from 2020- 2022 and leadership in digital transformation in the sub-region from 2023-2025.
