Placed under the patronage of the President of the Republic, the Digital Week: Cameroon has gone underway in Yaounde, following the inaugural ceremony chaired by the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute. Holding on the theme “Towards a Digital Future, the ground-breaking event co-organized by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) and the Telecommunications Regulatory Board of Cameroon, is bring together policy designers, decision makers, members of Parliament, diplomatic corps joined over 100 IT experts and delegates from 18 CTO member countries in attendance. Participants will for five days (16-20 October), explore the latest technological advancements, emerging trends, and collaboration opportunities in the digital domain. Experts, entrepreneurs, researchers, and policymakers from around the world are sharing their knowledge, ideas, and experiences in order to understand how to fully harness digital technologies to solve complex problems, stimulate economic growth, and improve the quality of life for our citizens. Various speakers at the opening ceremony heaped praises on Cameroon for making strides in accelerating digital transformation. To the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, Cameroon has embarked on huge investments in digital technologies and will continue to work to bring innovative Information Communications Technologies if digital transformation goals must be met. The PM highlighted some of the cutting edge digital infrastructure such as the submarine cables, Cameroon digital centre, over 20,000km of terrestrial cable deployed to facilitate connectivity amongst others. The Head of Government who represented the President of the Republic rejoiced that 95 per cent of the population has access to basic digital services provided by some four concessions and 35 licenced digital service providers.
