I n a context where Western beauty standards are considered by many as the best, Salon de la Beauté Africaine (SABA); a beauty fair, is out to change the narrative. SABA was born out of a desire to celebrate and promote the natural beauty of African and Afro-descendant women and girls, by highlighting their specific hair and skin characteristics. Organised by Sylvia Thudor Ongono, the beauty fair aims to encourage self-acceptance, and create a space for sharing natural, authentic skincare products. “Our aim is not only to offer solutions adapted to black skin and textured hair, but also to help women regain their self-confidence by celebrating their unique beauty,” she explained.
