Detergent production is one of the most common businesses that is easy to learn and also needs a small amount of capital at the start. Though the local processing of detergent, is very risky, mostly women have braved all odds and applied stringent security guidelines that bind even visitors to prevent domestic accidents since most of them don’t have factories. Meton Clean, a detergent production company that produces liquid detergent and bleach with Anne Marie Meton at the head, has the passion to empower women by training them in detergent making. According to Anne Marie Meton, detergent-making does not only save money since her family use it daily, but it equally brings income since she sells and makes a profit. From the start, she introduced the product to her colleagues, who used and appreciated it before she went public. She used FCFA 10,000 for her first production which cost her some FCFA 10,000. Away from her colleagues who patronise her business, she also gets encouragement from her husband who works in a company where her cleaning materials are needed. Due to the lack of storage space, she mostly produces on order and with her four children, she can produce and deliver client orders from 20 litres to 80 litres. She sells a 5-litre liquid detergent at FCFA 3,000 while a 5-litre bleach goes for FCFA 2,500. She makes more profit when she sells the liquid detergent at FCFA 800 per litre than when she sells 5 litres at FCFA 3,000. With her four-year experience, she is always solicited by some women’s social groups to train them in detergent-making. She has trained over 100 women and a good number of them generate income from the act...
