Wouri Riverbank Road: Governor, City Mayor Lay Foundation Stone

The 4 km road that will cost some FCFA 44,4 Billion lies between the Deido Roundabout and the MAETUR

T he Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, and the Douala City Mayor, Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndine, have laid the foundation stone of the Wouri Riverbank Road Development Project. The road contained in Douala’s Urban Master Plan (PDU) lies between the Deido Roundabout and the MAETUR Roundabout at Bonamoussadi. The 4km road that will contain a main 2x2- lane platform with a central reservation and a 2x2 boulevard among others, will cost the Douala City Council some FCFA 44,4 Billion. According to the project logbook, the budget that is tax-inclusive also covers compensation for those affected by the project. During the project presentation, the Head of Mission of the Control Office disclosed that the project will respect the 24-month execution period. He added that the category-one road will face challengesincluding environmental, and climatic, and enjoined the population to collaborate. While thanking the colourful and cheerful crowd amongst which were administrative, traditional, and religious authorities, the Douala City Mayor, Dr. Roger Mbassa Ndine said the completion of the project will contribute to the competitiveness of the economic capital and the nation at large. He further made known that the ambitious project is part of an integrated vision of urban transformation that aimed at reducing congestion in the urban core, restructuring the metropolitan mobility plan, promoting river heritage, stimulating the local economy, and strengthening urban resilience.
