Huawei ICT Competition: University Of Buea Emerges On Honour Roll In China

Team Cameroon, made up of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) of the University of Buea and Ecole National Superier Polytechnique Yaounde, has won the second prize in Network Track at the global stage of the Huawei ICT competition in Shenzou, China. They bagged home bronze medals and diverse ICT gadgets. The laureates are also entitled to pre-employment internship and jobs at Huawei. The competition ran from May 20-27, 2025, in Shenzou China. The UB winners are Soyang Thierry Ngong and Djoumessi Nguefack Ivan. On Friday June 13, 2025, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof Agbor Dieudonne Agbor, said the performance serves as a source of inspiration to other students. He said the consensus is that recognition and awards, especially those signifying genuine excellence, are powerful motivators. They foster a culture of achievement and inspire students to reach their full potential. The Dean pointed out that Huawei via its flagship program of Campus recruitment has in recent years prioritized FET students and graduates. They start the recruitment from UB before going to other places. That this is thanks to the performances of the FET alumni already working with them. Dr. Engr Wirnkar Basil Nsanyuy indicated that Huawei ICT Academy has an online platform for knowledge exchange. It has over 13 free courses in the field of IT with free certification for Academy students. As a result, FET students take the different courses and get certified in diverse ICT domains thereby enhancing capacity of FET students. FET alumni are also the backbone of the Silicon Mountain and many of them also work at the Mastercard foundation, AMD, Banks etc. On another victorious score, four students from the University of Buea emerged as 2nd place winners in the prestigious Africa Business Concept Challenge (ABCC) 2025.
