T he security of information systems has become a major concern for businesses and organisations throughout the world. Africa, as a continent undergoing rapid technological and economic development, is no exception to these challenges. It is against this backdrop that a white paper, entitled «Strengthening digital security in Africa: the strategic importance of the SOC», has been produced. The document created by ST DIGITAL and RHOPEN LABS focuses on a key element of digital defense, the Security Operations Centre (SOC), which will prevent enterprises from cyberattacks. “Given the constant increase in security breaches and the sophistication and growing number of cyber-attacks, it is imperative that businesses re-examine their approach to cybersecurity. It is now essential to move to an approach that focuses on comprehensive data analysis using advanced monitoring, threat detection, and cyber attacker response tools…To achieve this, it is imperative to review the IT infrastructures already in place and adopt more modern, up-todate ones,” the White Paper stipulated. The document explores in depth the missions and functions, the organisational structure, and the central role of the SOC in African organisations, highlighting its impact on the protection of critical infrastructures and the maintenance of digital trust. The white paper also aims to help African organisations understand the specific challenges of cybersecurity on the continent and to put in place effective SOCs to meet these challenges. Speaking during the presentation of the document, the President of RHOPEN lABS, Djimgou Francois Xavier, said SOC is an entity made up of a set of processes, technologies, and specialised people whose mission is to monitor, detect, analyse, and respond to security incidents in an organisation’s IT infrastructure.
