FCFA 1.3 billion has been paid as compensation to some 129 people who suffered loss of land rights and/or destruction of property following the implementation of the Development Project for the Dibamba Industrial-Port Activity Zone (ZAIPD). During the launch of payment on July 3rd, the Technical Adviser at the Douala Port Authority (PAD), MEZATIO Sylvestre made known that the payment operation is putting in place of the decree of the Prime Minister on the 24th of March, 2025 that authorized the indemnification of the first set of people impacted by ZAIPD. The 129 people paid are on the first list, while a second list that will be validated by the PM will be made public as soon as it is signed and payment carried out immediately. “The next phase after this first payment will be the laying of the foundation stone, previewed before the end of July, which will mark the beginning of the execution phase on the site,” he explained. During the paydays, broad smiles could be seen on beneficiaries’ faces except for the few that still have issues that have been forwarded to competent authorities, awaiting positive feedback. According to NGOUTANG Jacques, benefiting from the amount for 1,000 square metres of land, the procedures went on smoothly with explicit explanations from the SDO, while MBOSSE Henriette lamented that she only received money for the crops and not for the piece of land, brandishing her land title. To the Technical Adviser, nobody will be cheated, and all the complaints have been taken into consideration and which is the reason why there will be a second list of beneficiaries.
