The Local Materials Promotion Authority, regional research programs, and private developers are accelerating the technical modernization of Cameroon’s eco-construction sector to secure a permanent foothold in public and private works.

T he launch on July 14, 2026, of the Local Materials Promotion Authority’s (MIPRO MALO) special holiday pro gram, running through August 28, equips youth, artisans, and contractors with skills in bricklaying, soil testing, Compressed Earth Block (CEB) formulation, pottery, and ceramics. The company operates under the supervi sion of research and scientific innovation ministry, with an annual executed operational budget of FCFA 1.51 billion. Concurrently, the July 28, 2026, signing of protocols granting operational infrastruc ture under the Promotion of Research, Innovation, and Digital Culture in Central Africa project (PRICNAC), funded with FCFA 1.26 billion by the EU via the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States Secretariat, transitions research into active economic assets. This transfer builds on the Energy Economy and Eco-Responsible Processes in Infrastructure Production in Central Africa: Modelling and Digitalization project. A one year, FCFA 105 million initiative executed between February 2023 and February 2024. Uniting 6 institutional partners, including the Na tional Advanced School of Engineering of Yaounde, the Universities of Bangui and Pala, and European hubs in Trento, Modena, and Limoges, the project generated 15 plus peer-reviewed publications, 10 international conference presentations, and 5 Master’s theses. It proved viability through two prototypes namely a bitumen-free road in Simbock and a smart eco- school in Nkolmesseng. Economic impact studies by MIPROMALO reveal that op timized CEB and local clay technologies slash structural construction costs by 20% to 30% compared to conventio nal concrete. Domestic tile production is spearheaded by MIPROMALO, producing roof tiles priced between FCFA 4,350 and FCFA 9,950/ m², alongside KG Ceramic.
