“It Increases Germination and Survival Rates”

Ngelah Igma Tanyie, Inventor of Smart Seed Nursery System.

What types of crops can be nursed in this smart seed nursery system? Any crop can be germinated in the seed nursery. For now, I used beans for demonstra tion. Different crops have their own threshold values at which they are set. When I say threshold values, I mean the temperature, humidity, soil temperature, and soil moisture levels that are conducive to the crop. So, depending on the crop you are planting, we can optimize these threshold values to suit that crop. So for now, my system can only take one particular crop at a time. So, this system can be used to plant corn, or to plant tomatoes, or any other crop. I will have to update the code that is sent to the microcontroller. There is a microcontroller, which is the brain of the whole system. It takes the information from the sensors and activates the corresponding actuators. That is where you set the system’s threshold values. What you have here is a prototype. Can you make a larger smart seed nursery? It all depends on the client’s request. I can make it as large as the individual would like. I would just have to increase the size and get actuators with higher power ratings to power the system. It cost me FCFA 89,600 to produce this proto type. If a client needs a 100 by 100 centimeters, I will need a fan with a higher power rating. So, the cost will increase to about FCFA 200 000 or more. As a bonus, the system has an app where one can monitor the parameters remotely to see what is going on with the smart seed nursery. How would this solve the problem of food insuffi ciency in Cameroon? Most Cameroonians plant seeds directly in the ope...
