As Cameroon joins, global stakeholders at the 62nd session of the Subsidiary Bodies for Implementation (SBI62) in Germany from June 16-26, 2025, the Climate Finance Action (CFA) working group in Cameroon, a collective of 20 environmental activists and leaders, convened a one-day seminar on June 7, 2025 in Buea to strategize key climate finance actions for the Cameroonian government to prioritize at the SBI62 and subsequent intergovernmental climate processes. The SBI62, an annual gathering of diverse stakeholders, including government negotiators, climate experts, environmental rights defenders, and diplomats is meant to review, consult, negotiate, monitor, and recommend actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to combat climate change. This year’s session will also lay groundwork for COP30, the global climate conference scheduled for November 2025 in Belem, Brazil. In Cameroon, various climate justice initiatives are underway to raise awareness about the realities faced by communities, particularly women and girls, who are disproportionately affected by climate change. The working sessions that united 20 stakeholders from varied environmental initiatives in the last six months for a one-year training program, co-hosted by Women for a Change Cameroon (Wfac) and supported by the World Resources Institute (WRI) under the Green Accountability initiative, delves into the crucial intersection of climate finance with gender equality, agriculture, food security, and menstrual health and dignity. “Studies indicate that climate change results in an annual loss of over $130 million in economic value, with an estimated GDP loss of 4-10 per cent by 2050.” Dr. Zoneziwou Mbondgulo, CEO for Wfac, revealed. “This highlights the urgent need for sustainable, flexible, and longterm climate finance to be a priority in all climate actions,” she added.
