Facilitating Cameroon’s Trade: Experts To Propose Solutions

The 2022 Cameroon Free Trade Forum organised by the Nkafu Policy Institute holds in Yaounde on Friday February 25 on the theme “Facilitating Cameroon’s Bilateral and Multilateral Trade.

T rade between Cameroon and other countries of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) stands at a paltry 3 per cent according to the CEMAC Commission. Despite the proximity of the sub-region intra community trade is insignificant. Intra African trade is generally low compared to trade outside the continent. It is against this backdrop that African Union and other partners came up with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) which went into effect in 2020. How can Cameroon take advantage of this huge market the continent offers is now another puzzle. It is on this premise that the Nkafu Policy Institute, a Yaounde based Think Tank, is organizing the Cameroon Free Trade Forum scheduled to hold in Yaounde on Friday February 25. The theme for reflections “Facilitating Cameroon’s Bilateral and Multilateral Trade,” will be dissected by several experts drawn from government ministries, diplomatic corps, university dons, entrepreneurs and independent consultants.
