PlaYce Yaounde Shopping Centre: Galore of Opportunities For Made-in Cameroon Products

The first ever grand shopping and entertainment centre constructed and operated by the French Group CFAO Consumer Retail has gone operational in Yaounde.

T he Warda neighbourhood located in the heart of the nation’s political capital has taken a different outlook as the conspicuous and imposing infrastructure hosting the newest and largest shopping centre in the Central African sub-region attracts hundreds of curious visitors Tuesday June 5, hours before its official inauguration. Constructed on a 35,000sq metres, PlaYce covers nearly 17,000sq metres of commercial space including a Carrefour hypermarket which covers 4,000sq metres of sales area, a shopping mall with 50 local and international brands. The grand distribution centre constructed and operated by CFAO Consumer Retail, a French distribution group, presents a plethora of opportunities for Made-in Cameroon products which will further gain visibility through the shopping centre. In a press conference in prelude to the official inauguration of the commercial space, CFAO Consumer Retail and partners noted that over 20,000 items are on offer amongst them, Made in Cameroon products. Manuel De Rosa, Carrefour’s senior executive officer noted that local agricultural, livestock and fishing products have their place at the shopping mall with hygiene and security assurance guaranteed. Local spices, cosmetic products, beverages and drinks and other Cameroonian products are equally present. “Made-in Cameroon has 4600 references supplied by some 225 local producers,” he stated. In the domain of restauration, Cameroonian culinary and grills are highly represented among the eight restaurants and fastfood sections of the shopping centre. The Managing Director of CFAO Consumer Retail, Luc Demez added that they prioritized many fresh agricultural products and to promote Made-in Cameroon in general in the commercial space of the shopping centre. He says plans are afoot to have about 400 suppliers of Madein Cameroon products for the hypermarket.
