Reconstruction of the North West, South West: Substantial Achievements As Financial Mobilization Continues

The steering committee met recently for the 4th session to evaluate road covered thus far and make projections especially in terms of financial mobilization.

Members of the steering committee of the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South West Regions (PPRD-NW/SW have taken stock of the road covered so far in the implementation of the plan and mapped out ways to forge ahead especially concerning financial mobilization. Meeting recently at the Prime Minister’s Office under the auspices of the Committee’s chairperson, Balungeli Confiance Ebune who is the Director of Cabinet of the PM, members noted with satisfaction, towering progress made 18 months after the takeoff of the plan. Members adopted the activity report which covers all the three pillars of the plan (promotion of social cohesion, rehabilitation of essential infrastructure and revitalization of the local economy) as at June 30, 2022 and projected into the future. According to the report, the plan implemented in the field by the United Nation’s Development Programme (UNDP), has rehabilitated some 30 schools which accommodates more than 7000 students, 20 health centres which caters for the health needs of more than 5000 patients monthly. There has been the construction of 19 water points which provides water to some 170,000 people. Also, the plan has reconstituted 800 lost documents, organized 12 cultural events and reconstructed 5 multi-purpose centres for youth and women and supplied materials to 2,400 farmers and fishermen, amongst others. Financial Mobilization In a press conference granted by the Coordinator of the PPRD-NW/SW, Paul Tasong who doubles as the Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, stated that the plan has received FCFA 11.9 billion as at June 30, out of the FCFA 89 billion initially programmed. 75 per cent of the amount has come from the government of Cameroon and the rest from the government of Japan and the private sector. According to the report of activity, FCFA 10 billion will be disbursed to the implementing partner during the current budgetary year while negotiations are on course with other bilateral partners for financial contributions.
